Davidson’s #PlantTheFlag day
College football practice officially begins this week for teams across our region including at Davidson, Charlotte and elsewhere. The Wildcats have their annual Plant The Flag Day set for Wednesday, Aug. 5. Coach Paul Nichols wrote a letter this week to Wildcats’ fans about the show of support.
Coach Nichols’ letter
Dear Wildcats,
The 2015 Wildcats report to training on Wednesday, August 5. We are excited to welcome 34 freshmen to our family. Our mission is to represent Davidson College and the former players well this season.
Summer has been an exciting time on campus. We had a record number of players make a commitment to live in Davidson and improve mentally and physically through work in the weight room and film room. Additionally, we head into fall semester after a record-breaking academic performance in the spring semester.
Training camp is a critical time for our football program as we lay the foundation for our 2015 season. It is a time where we will grow together and forge bonds that will last a lifetime.
At the urging of Jon Perry ’76, we “planted the flag” last year. This is now an annual tradition. We would like to do it better than ever this year. I ask that you fly your Davidson flag outside of your home on Wednesday, August 5 and send us a picture. We will take those pictures and hang them in our locker room in order so that our current roster feels the support of the Wildcat Football Family. If you do not have a flag, please send us a picture in any Davidson gear that you have.
Please send a picture including your name and graduation year if applicable. Pictures should be sent to Kelly Shuman at keshuman@davidson.edu. We will post the pictures to our website as well as our twitter and Instagram accounts.
I look forward to breaking the record for number of flags planted on the 5th.
Go ‘Cats & Plant the Flag,
Paul Nichols ‘03
