Charlotte Kickoff Night Saturday

charlotte kickoff

Scholastic Sports Marketing is proud to announce the return of the “CharlottePreps.TV Kickoff Night, powered by OrthoCarolina.” The event’s exciting doubleheader will once again be featured at the newly renovated Memorial Stadium in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, on Saturday August 22nd, 2015 season at 5:00 p.m.

First up, the Charlotte Country Day Buccaneers will take on the Myers Park Mustangs, in a long-awaited public-private matchup. This game is especially poignant as Country Day very recently hired former Mustang Defensive Coordinator, Drew Witman, as their new Head Coach. Drew is replacing his father, Charlotte coaching legend, Bob Witman. Bob resigned earlier this year after 25 years of coaching at Charlotte Country Day. With the schools being only five miles apart, the winner of this game looks to take away the ultimate bragging rights within the South Park – south Charlotte area.

For the second game of the night, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Mavericks of Mallard Creek will take on the Independence Patriots. The Mavericks offer an exciting challenge for Independence, as they come into the game as back-to-back NCHSAA 4AA State Champions. Independence finished their impressive 2014 regular season undefeated, falling only to Hough in the 3rd round of the NCHSAA 4AA State Championship playoffs.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Middle School Athletics. Tickets can be purchased in advance online: $10 for Saturday’s doubleheader.
