Rowan hosts State Legion Tournament

The North Carolina American Legion Baseball State Tournament begins Friday (July 24) at Newman Park in Salisbury at Catawba College.

Seven-time state champion and host Rowan County leads the eight-team field. Rowan is the Area III Champion after beating High Point in the playoffs.

Here is the schedule:

Friday Game 1 – Area II champion (Hope Mills) vs. Area IV runner-up (Caldwell County), 9 a.m. Game 2 – Area IV champion (Haywood County) vs. Area III No. 3 (Eastern Randolph), noon Game 3 – Area I champion (Garner) vs. Area III runner-up (High Point), 3 p.m. Game 4 – Host/Area III champion (Rowan County) vs. Area I runner-up (Wilson), 7 p.m.

Saturday Game 5 – Losers of Games 1 and 3, 9 a.m. Game 6 – Losers or Games 2 and 4, noon Game 7 – Winners of Games 1 and 3, 4 p.m. Game 8 – Winners of Games 2 and 4, 7 p.m.

Sunday Game 9 – Game 6 winner vs. Game 7 loser, noon Game 10 – Game 5 winner vs. Game 8 loser, 4 p.m. Game 11 – Winners of Games 7 and 8, 7 p.m.

Monday Game 12 – Game 9 winner vs. Game 11 loser, 1 p.m. Game 13 – Game 11 winner vs. Game 10 winner, 7 p.m. Tuesday Game 14 – Game 12 winner vs. Game 13 winner, 1 p.m. Game 15 – if necessary.

Tournament passes are $40. Each session is $12. You can purchase tickets at WSAT Memories 1280 prior to the tournament, or purchase them at the gate.

Charlotte 49ers set to play C-USA football

Conference USA held its annual Media Day in Florida this week. Charlotte 49ers Coach Brad Lambert was on hand. Here is an interview recorded at the new American Sports Network studios.

The Charlotte 49ers open the season Sept. 4 at the Georgia Dome against Georgia State.

Bojangles’ Summer Shootout in the home stretch

It’s that time of year at the Bojangles’ Summer Shootout Series when every lap and every point matters as drivers battle for a championship. With just two rounds remaining to decide the 2015 Bojangles’ Summer Shootout Ser8es champions, Austin Hill, Robbie Faggart and John Holleman IV were among the drivers to score pivotal wins during Round 8 on Tuesday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
