LAST WEEK’S HIGHLIGHTS

● The Charlotte football team (1-3) notched a tight win, 42 – 41, over Georgia State on Saturday, September 17th.
○ Quarterback Chris Reynolds returned from injury and catapulted the team to a victory, etching five touchdowns on the stat sheet. The game-winning drive from Reynolds came in the fourth quarter, with a 1:39 left on the scoreboard, sending the 49ers home with a notch in the win column.
● The Charlotte men’s soccer team (6-0) gained wins against both Winthrop and UAB this week, still remaining undefeated and #11 in NCAA rankings.
○ In Tuesday’s game against Winthrop, the Niners dominated with their third 5-0 game in a row and their fourth shutout game in a row. Seniors Kameron Lacey and Alex Willis both notched two points on the night with a goal and assist for each.
○ In Saturday’s game against UAB, the Niners won 3-0 to set the tone for the first American Athletic Conference game of the season. The win made it their sixth in a row and the fifth consecutive shutout game, with a stellar performance from redshirt junior goalkeeper Thomas Wallis. The six game win streak put the Niners at their best start since 1996.
● The Charlotte women’s soccer team (1-5-2) went head to head with North Texas and UTSA this week and was knocked down in each.
○ The Niners were taken down, 2-0, at North Texas on Thursday in their first Conference-USA opening match.
○ On Sunday, against UTSA, the Niners fell 2-0, with six shots on the board for the entire match.
● The Charlotte volleyball team (6-6) was taken down twice this week by Davidson and Wake Forest.
○ In Thursday’s match against Davidson, the Niners fell 3-1 to the Wildcats. Emani Foster tied her career high in kills tacking 28 on the stat sheet.
○ In Saturday’s match against Wake Forest, Charlotte fell 3-0, ending non-conference play.
● Charlotte women’s golf played the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Monday and Tuesday.
○ Charlotte women's golfer Maia Samuelsson secured a top-20 finish to begin the new 2022-23 season in the Dick McGuire Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The 49ers as a team ended the three-round event in 17th.
● The men’s tennis team competed at the Duke Bonk Invitational in Cary, N.C., led by sophomore Vasco Prata who went 3-1 in singles play and finished in third in the B Draw throughout the weekend.
● The women’s tennis team captured a pair of flight titles at the Elon Fall Invitational with junior Kavvya Sawhney earning a doubles title with Lucia Aranda, before winning a singles crown to finish the weekend, 6-0, overall.

● Charlotte inducted their Hall of Fame class on Thursday, September 8th. The class includes former men’s basketball coach Lee Rose, who was inducted posthumously, longtime Director of Athletics Judy W. Rose, supporter Dale F. Halton, men’s soccer goalkeeper Jon Busch, men’s basketball star Cedric Maxwell, men’s golf ace Corey Nagy and women’s track and field sprinter Shareese Woods.
